Description

Pair of Finnish ‘Laila’ armchairs (model ‘238’), designed by Ilmari Lappalainen (1918-2006). Manufactured by Asko in the late 1940s. Seats are newly upholstered in Espresso sheepskin.

This pair of armchairs belongs to Ilmari Lappalainen’s notable ‘Laila’ series, a design celebrated by collectors even during its production era. The ‘Laila’ armchair, designed in 1948, holds a notable place in Finnish design history. The earliest original drawings are preserved in the Lahti City Museum as part of the Lappalainen Collection.
