Description
Pair of rare metal ceiling lamps, model H2-55/30, manufactured by Idman in Finland, 1964.
These rare and unique sculptural ceiling lamps were manufactured by the company Idman in Finland in 1964, the same exact company that manufactured various lamps for renowned Finnish designers such as Paavo Tynell and Alvar Aalto. This particular pair belongs to the “H2” ceiling lamp series, which included a variety of metal lamps made by the company in the 1960s. The “H2-55/30” lamp model is particularly rare not only because of its rarity on the market, but also due to its design, being one of the few square-shaped lamps from that series.
Each of these lamps is composed of a square-shaped white metal frame with a removable metal grid (please note that the metal grid slightly differs between both lamps). Additionally, inside, each lamp features the original manufacturer’s stamp “Idman” together with the lamp’s model number, “H2-55”. The design of these lamps resembles Paavo Tynell’s “9068” (Starry Sky) ceiling lamp, or, for example, Alvar Aalto’s metal flush-mount ceiling lamps, all manufactured by Idman in Finland. The “H2-55/30” model number stands for a few particular factors of the given lamp. “H2” stands for the lamp surface type, “55” stands for the lamp’s type number, and “30” is simply the lamp’s side length in centimeters. Generally, the “H2-55” model included five length variations, being 15, 20, 25, 30 and 40, making this pair the second largest.
